My name is Tyson Rahrig. I’m the founder of Tempered Fitness.
This didn’t start as a brand. It started as survival.
As a teenager, I was lazy, overweight, undisciplined, and angry—full of big dreams with zero follow-through. At 5’8” and nearly 280 pounds, I hated what I saw in the mirror and felt trapped in a body I didn’t know how to fix.
After high school, I ended up homeless. Sleeping in a beat-up 2001 Camry with no AC, working whatever jobs I could get, broke, and furious at myself. There was no movie-moment wake-up call. Just a quiet refusal to stay there.
I did what a lot of people do when they don’t know better—I went extreme. For months I starved myself on 500 calories a day and forced myself to move no matter how exhausted I was. I lost over 110 pounds, but I also destroyed my metabolism, lost my muscle, and created health issues I still deal with today.
That pain became the lesson.


After the weight came off, I knew I wasn’t done. I wanted more than survival—I wanted purpose. I enlisted in the Marine Corps looking for brotherhood, discipline, and something bigger than myself, to be more akin to the heroes I grew up idolizing.
What I found wasn’t war or glory. It was peacetime, bureaucracy, and people chasing promotions instead of purpose. So I kept searching.
While serving in the reserves, I became a firefighter and EMT. For years, I trained relentlessly—on the job, in the gym, and in combat sports. MMA, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, even full-contact armored fighting.
Through all of it, one thing stayed constant: fitness was the weapon. It made me a better Marine. A better firefighter. A better fighter.
More importantly, I realized I was never more alive than when I was helping others become stronger.
After my final deployment to Cuba, I walked away from the uniform and committed fully to that purpose. I became a certified personal trainer and spent years coaching in gyms while continuing to compete. But I kept running into the same problem—too many people needed help, and too many couldn’t afford it.
Tempered Fitness was the solution.
A way to take everything I learned—hard lessons, real-world experience, and years under the bar—and make strength accessible to anyone willing to earn it.
